Education Disparities in Israel: MEEI Webinar Recording

Education Disparities in Israel: Mar Elias Educational Institutions

In case you missed it – recording of Webinar

with Archbishop Emeritus (Abuna) Elias Chacour,

Mrs. Nawar Mussallam, financial and institutional development director,

Mr. Victor Rohana, Vice Principal of the High School, and

Emil Haloun, Governing Counsel member and International Relations Director

In this webinar we learned about how Christian schools in Israel receive considerably less funds, as compared with Jewish schools, from the Israeli Ministry of Education. Not only that but there are also different laws that dictate life for Palestinian and Jewish Israeli students and these differences create massive chasms in educational opportunities. Mar Elias is hanging on while dozens of Christian schools in Israel are on the precipice of closing their doors — unable to afford faculty salaries not to mention the full array of costs that are involved in providing education — impacting upwards of 20,000 youth.

Watch the video to learn more about these disparities, how they challenge the ability to offer an exceptional education to Palestinian Muslim, Christian and Druze students, and how the administration and faculty at MEEI overcome these challenges to consistently be ranked in the top 10 of Israeli schools (no other Palestinian school can say the same).
